Persuasive Speech Topic Ideas that Will Impress Your Professor

When a student gets a task of preparing a persuasive speech, it's usually a lot easier and more fun to prepare a speech about something particularly exciting and engaging for the student than to make them write about a fixed topic about which they couldn't care less. Since teaching a student to discuss an imposed topic is not among this task goals, teachers usually choose not to impose questions, doing their students a favor and often leaving the choice of topic for their persuasive speech up to them. On the one hand, a student often welcomes this additional degree of academic freedom because it feels liberating. On the other hand, it's easy to get confused when your choice of topic is infinite. Either way, it's best when a student takes their time to find the ultimate theme for themselves instead of picking a random one in a hurry.

If you are one of the people who feel a tad confused having to pick the best topic for their persuasive speech, we have put together this extensive list of possible subjects you can use. For the most part, our list consists of standard persuasive speech topics that many students have already discussed. They include gun control, same-sex marriages, abortion, smoking in public, etc. Some of these topics remain controversial, to a degree, but both pro and con opinions are quite shaped in the public's minds. So such questions are relatively easy to write about. If you find it boring and would like a bit more challenge, we have also included some of the more original topics that have arisen quite recently and remain, to some extent, unchartered waters. You are welcome to pick one of these topics or get inspired and come up with one of your own.

As you can see, a mere glance at such an extensive list (which is by no means exhaustive) is enough to confuse a student. Still, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the choice will be up to a student. Naturally, you will accomplish this task much easier when you pick a topic that you find particularly engaging and about which you are already quite well-informed. This will inevitably add a personal touch to your speech and make it more persuasive.

Of course, picking the right topic is not the only thing you need to do to have an excellent persuasive speech. The next thing is to prepare a convincing thesis statement. Usually, writers choose to place their thesis statements in the last sentence of their first, introductory paragraph. This is the stem of the whole speech, so it should reflect the message you want to convey perfectly. This message must hook your reader, so it's best to make it something less apparent, perhaps something that your audience will not accept automatically. If you have picked a particularly controversial topic, some shock value won't harm. Also, try to make your personality present in this thesis statement.

After the introduction, there will be body paragraphs where you present your arguments, one paragraph for each argument. Usually, there will be three of them, - it's enough to convince the audience without overwhelming or exhausting them. As we have mentioned, each paragraph is dedicated to one of your arguments. A paragraph starts with the formulation of an argument, which you later ground. Importantly, the paragraphs must not stand isolated from one another. Be sure to place them logically and add a smooth logical transition to the next paragraph at the end of the previous one.

The final paragraph of your persuasive speech is its conclusion. Here, you summarize all the information you have mentioned in your body paragraphs and reinstate your thesis statement, but – not word for word! You must also give your verdict on the thesis statement. Usually, speakers confirm its rightness, but it's also possible to debunk the initial statement in your conclusion.

Preparing a persuasive speech is not the easiest task in school, but it's also by far not the most difficult one. It does, however, require quite some time and focus. It will usually take you longer if you're supposed to prepare a persuasive speech in one of the subjects that are not your major. Often, this time and effort will not even be justified in the long run. In the latter case, it's natural to be reluctant to sacrifice your time and attention that you could otherwise spend on your major subject. Fortunately, it doesn't render the situation hopeless.

With custom writing, you are free to prioritize efficiently and the way you want it, and we are the ones to do it for you.
